Kente Dinner Dance Surely Coming On:

The annual Kente Dinner and Dance, which is held in London to commemorate Ghana’s Independence Day cerebrations, will definitely come on Friday the 4th of March this year, according to organizer.

For a fifth year running, OBE TV is organiing the Kente Dinner Dance dubbed “KENTE BALL” in London to commemorate Ghana’s 54th independence anniversary.

This year’s event, which is supported by SANKOFA MAGAZINE and MAKAI SAXON DESIGN, will feature prominent Ghanaian showbiz stars like Ghana's ace comedian Agya Koo and the legend Ben Brako with the Bonwirehene Nana Bobie Ansah and Ghana’s High commissioner to the UK, Professor Kwaku Danso Boafo in attendance.

The two special guests will deliver speeches, aimed at providing insight into the Kente industry to would-be investors.

The full-recorded version of the programme, KENTE Ball, will later be broadcast on OBE TV for viewers in North Africa, The US and Europe.

In an interview with the CEO of OBE TV, Mrs. Catharine Ampaw, said, the programme will go on as planned as opposed to the speculation that it has been called off.

“Within the past few days OBE TV has been off air due chiefly to technical issues and observers think due to this we are not holding the event any longer, it is surely going to come on.” She emphasised.

The Event was launched in 2007 to promote Ghanaian Culture and Heritage in the Diaspora ånd importantly to attract investors into the industry.

Though figures are currently not available to figure out production levels, it is easy to note that kente patronage in the Diaspora has been very encouraging. Currently there are some Ghanaian shops in the Diaspora especially in the UK where Kente is predominantly sold.

The event will be held on Friday the 4th of March 2011 at the prestigious CHAK 89 Banqueting Suite, 105 Bond Way, Mitcham CR4 3HG? and would see the crowing of MISS KENTE 2011.

She noted that the first two years of this event speaks for itself because it has been hugely successful in the Diasporas among Ghanaian and non-Ghanaians.

“The first two events were funded by OBE TV, SANKOFA MAGAZINE and MAKAI SAXON DESIGN but not only were we able to contribute to AFRI KIDS a CHARITABLE ORGANISATION which in GHANA, we also made a huge financial contribution to support the Ashanti town of BONWIRE where it all started.” Mrs. Ampaw noted

According to her the first Event saw the BONWIRE HENE and some Kente weavers and traders who sold substantial pieces of KENTE cloths, proceeds of which went to support projects in the Bonwire area.

“The organisers of this event are very proud of their achievements and the contribution we have made to both AFRI KIDS and the people of BONWIRE in the ASHANTI REGION of GHANA.” She observed
