‘Killer’ of mourner before court

The 66-year-old man, who allegedly shot and killed a mourner at a funeral at Klefe, in the Volta Region, appeared before the Ho District Magistrate Court Two on Tuesday, on a provisional charge of murder.

The court remanded Samuel Letsa in police custody until April 16, and the case adjournment to enable the police to carry out further investigations into the case.

Police Chief Inspector Rosemina Bani, told the court, presided by Mr Ebenezer K. Ansah, that the incident took place at Klefe-Achatime on Saturday, March 30, after 9 am, during musketry for a deceased traditional warrior of the town.

The prosecution said Letsa fired a shot from a locally manufactured gun, hitting Simon K. Dzanku, 62, in the neck and throat, killing him instantly.

The body of the deceased had been taken to the Volta Regional Hospital, Ho, for preservation and autopsy.

After the incident, the chief of the town, Togbe Amegboe IV, led Letsa to the Ho Central Police Station to report the incident.
