Killing of Captain Mahama: Security closing in on killers - Kwamena Duncan

Security agencies in the Central Region are closing in on all those who participated in the dastardly killing of a military commander posted to the town of Denkyira-Obuasi, Monday, May 29, 2017, Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, has disclosed.

About 130 persons were rounded up in a swoop by a reinforced military detachment to the area on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, out of which 50 were screened and handed over to the police.

“The police are currently holding five persons who are said to be connected to the circumstances leading to the lynching of Capt. Maxwell Adam Mahama, whom they claimed they mistook for an armed robber,” the Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, said

Addressing the media yesterday, the minister said the security forces were gradually narrowing down on all the persons who were involved in the atrocious act.

According to him, people were still afraid to return because of the heavy security presence.

The town, he noted, was completely deserted as hundreds of residents have fled their homes for fear of being arrested.

Meanwhile, as at the time of going to press yesterday the Assembly man for Denkyira-Boase who is believed to be one of the prime suspects in the lynching of Captain Maxwell Mahama in the town had voluntarily reported himself to the police in Diaso.

William Baah, according to reports, turned himself in to the police yesterday afternoon.

He was subsequently whisked to the Cape Coast Regional Police Command which has taken over the case

The late army officer was said to have gone for his usual early morning physical exercise when he met his untimely death after he was stoned and burnt.
