Fire has gutted a three football pitch-size main warehouse of Kingdom Books and Stationery at Prampram in the Greater Accra region.
Firefighters are having a torrid time in dousing the fire five hours since it started. Properties mainly office stationery and furniture worth millions of Ghana Cedis have been consumed by the blaze which has affected four of the warehouses leaving six untouched.
The fire started around 7am Sunday and its cause is unknown. The warehouse serves as the main storage depot of the stationery firm in Ghana.
Five fire tenders have been deployed to the scene to salvage the situation.
According to fire officials they are having challenges with access to water to combat the fire.
“The company itself has fire hydrants but unfortunately the pumps failed and was restored later but the pressure is not effective,” Divisional officer Grade 1 Osafo Affum of the Ghana Fire Service at Tema told the media.
Kingdom Books is yet to officially comment on the fire incident.
Kingdom has over 20 years experience in supplying quality office essentials, equipment and furniture.
