Kintampo accident: My child was my only hope – Parent

Mr Mensah, a father whose child was among the 18 children killed in the Kintampo Falls accident on Sunday, has said his son was his last hope.

According to him, he had invested so much in the education of his 18-year-old son, who was in his first year at the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School, and was hopeful of a bright future for his deceased son to enable him take care of his three siblings, hence the news of his death came as a shock to him.

Out of the 18 people who died in the gory accident, 15 of them were students form the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School who embarked on an excursion to the area.

The bodies have since been collected by relatives from the Wenchi Methodist Hospital.

Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday 21 March, Mr Mensah said: “My child was my last hope because I had invested so much in his education. I have four children and he is the eldest, so I was expecting that he would grow to take care of the rest of the family.

“I am still in a mourning mood, I find it difficult to eat, but whatever will happen has happened.”

Meanwhile, First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has extended her condolences to the families of those who died and sustained injuries in Sunday’s tragedy.

She tweeted on Monday: “My heartfelt condolence goes out to the families and loved ones of the tragedy at the Kintampo Falls. May God's good grace cover us all.”
