KoKMA to organize Regatta championship annually - Nii Adjei Tawiah

The municipal chief executive of Korle klottey municipal assembly (KoKMA) honourable Nii Adjei Tawiah says from next year the municipality will organizer regatta competition within the Osu township as part of homowo celebrations in order to create an exciting and healthier life among the fisher folks.

Regatta is a series of boat racing events of sailed water craft, which is organize as championships for a particular fishing community, which often held to for pleasure of competition and friendship, which Osu fishing community will soon engage with each other from year next in order to display creativity and originality.

This was contain in a message read on behalf of the municipal chief executive; Nii Adjei Tawiah by the a former Mayor of Accra, Hon Solomon Ofei Darko at the climax Osu homowo festivities.

For the first time in many years, the Osu township went agog with excitement and merry making amidst blasting of Gold Coast time highlife tracks/music to sustain the week- long celebration. This was in spite of the tension that engulfed the area earlier over the protracted chieftaincy dispute that had raged and pitched the people in the area into two camps.

The celebration Homowo festival by the chiefs and the people of Osu Traditional area saw the office of the first lady; Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo and the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly, (KoKMA) as part of their corporate social responsibility to the community, donated assorted items and an undisclosed sum of money as custom demanded to the stool houses of the four quarters of Osu as the Assembly’s contribution to the celebration.

The Assembly also sponsored some sporting events for identified youth clubs from the four quarters as a side attraction to the event / celebration. Hosting of these sporting activities were planned within the Homowo week to add more fun, entertaining and excitement to the celebration.

The main festival day event was a card playing contest among the four quarters in Osu namely Osu Kinkawe, Osu Alata, Osu Doku and Osu Ashante with the coveted prize going to the eventual winners. Draught competition among select clubs from the same quarters with Osu Doku emerging as the eventual winners.

The peak of the sporting activities was a football match and a Regatta competition on among the fisher folks at the Osu Klottey beach which was graced by the Osu Alata Chief Fisherman, Nii Djamlodja ll and a former Mayor of Accra, Hon Solomon Ofei Darko who represent the MCE for Korle klottey municipal assembly (KoKMA) presented prizes to the winners.

The festive week elevated the Osu township and its environs to a beehive of other social activities with a motley of people from all walks of life in attendance daily.
