The campaign team and supporters of Charles Kojo Walker, one of the parliamentary aspirants of the just ended National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries, have stated that they will never accept Kobby Acheampong as the parliamentary candidate for Cape Coast North since some fraudulent party officials imposed him on them.
According to them, the outcome of the primary was not the true representation of the choice of the majority. They therefore called for a re-run of the parliamentary primary after an audit of the final register used in all the polling centres.
They vowed to let Kojo Walker go independent if nothing was done about the situation.
The team made this known at a press conference organised in Cape Coast on Tuesday to express their displeasure at the situation.
The campaign manager for Walker, Alhassan Zakana, expressed concern about the way copies of the final register used on the voting day were seen in the possession of Mr Acheampong while the rest of the aspirants did not have them.
“Initially, 7142 people were found on the register during the exhibition but only 4317 were able to cast their votes and therefore 2825 voters couldn’t exercise their franchise; but surprisingly, those whose names were found in the register used for the voting were found in the register that Mr Acheampong had,” he said.
Mr Zakana hinted that names of dead and non-party members which were initially deleted found their way back into the register while names of living and committed NDC members were removed from the register just to favour Mr Acheampong.
He accused the party’s regional elections director, Lawyer Yaw Asiedu, the constituency elections director, George Ben Smith and the constituency chairman, Francis Gbeho, of being behind the act.
“We wish to bring to the attention of the constituency, regional and national hierarchy of the party that by recognising the election results of the Cape Coast North primaries, they are officially sending a signal of rejection to those whose names were deliberately deleted from the register used for the elections,” he added.
He further complained about the inability of Walker to cast his ballot because his name was deleted from the register and urged the authorities to institute an investigation into the issues they raised.
