National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams may have put to rest the speculation and lobbying by various groups on behalf of some leading members of the ruling party for a shot at the Presidency, when he strongly stated that none of the pressure groups will succeed in persuading President John Dramani Mahama to change the Vice President Amissah-Arthur as his Running Mate.
Giving a hint of President Mahama’s choice of Running Mate for the 2016 elections, Kofi Adams stated on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show said the President sent a strong signal of his choice for a Running Mate when he asked his Vice President, Amissah Arthur to pick up his nomination forms for him.
He apparently stated that President Mahama is very much impressed with the work of his Vice as he has always been heard commending him (Amissah-Arthur) publicly.
He recounted that apart from former President Rawlings, who replaced his Running Mate in 1996 for perhaps unprofessional conduct, every successful government under the 4th Republican Constitution has maintained their Vice Presidential Candidate when seeking for a second term in office.
“I don’t think that we need to rock the boat at all…so it is quite clear on the ground, but I don’t want to put pressure on the President in choosing his Running Mate, but I doubt there will be any change”, he stated.
