A former VALCO employee, Kofi Baako, emerged the Overall Mpohor District Best Farmer at the 34th National Farmers’ Day celebration at Angu in the Mpohor District of the Western Region.
Kofi Baako, 62, a native of Adum-Banso, was presented with a certificate, a tricycle, a radio, a piece of cloth, a wall clock, a spraying machine, a wellington boot, four cutlasses and six bags of wheat bran.
He owns 5 acres of maize, 12 acres of oil Palm plantation, 10 acres of Cocoa, 5 acres each of cassava, plantain and banana, 4 acres of vegetable plantation, 304 (indigenous microorganism) pig's on a large number scale, 14 cattle and two large fish ponds.
Baako, who once worked in Qatar, returned to Ghana and decided to enter into agriculture, a testament to the potential in utilizing land through Emaric Farms, which he started in Adum-Banso in the Mpohor District.
In all, 34 farmers in the Mpohor District were also awarded at the same event.
Kofi Baako is an old student of Obuasi Sec-Tech and Adisadel College.
