Former Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has backed claims by General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s accident was schemed by the NDC and the National Security.

Though the matter seemed to have been put to rest, the ex- Kumasi mayor resurrected it when he claimed on Okay FM that he is "1000%" sure the NDC plotted to eliminate Dr. Bawumia.

“I agree with Sir John a ‘1000%’ times if he says the NDC wanted to kill Bawumia”, he added.

He asserted that it was unfortunate for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, the NPP MP for Assin Central and former Asikuma-Odoben Brakwa MP, P.C Appiah Ofori to challenge their General Secretary when he accused the NDC of having a direct hand in the near-fatal incident that befell Dr. Bawumia and the three other occupants in his vehicle when it somersaulted on the Bole-Bamboi road after two of the tyres got burst.

According to him, National Security operatives kept a close watch on Dr. Bawumia by following his convoy from Kumasi through to Sunyani, and then to the three Northern regions.

He acknowledged that though security arrangements are encouraged in developed countries to protect influential politicians, it appears the NDC government had deployed the tactic to rather do away with Dr. Bawumia.

Mr Kofi Jumah further alleged that National Security personal tampered with Dr Bawumia's vehicle when his driver left the vehicle unattended to for a while, resulting in that near-tragedy.
