‘Kofi Jumah wants attention’

The Asokwa NPP Communications Director, Edmund Kyei, has reacted angrily to Kofi Jumah’s call for the annulment of the Asokwa NPP primaries which he (Jumah) lost to Madam Patricia Appiagyei.

According to him, “Kofi Jumah is a bad loser who only wants to create unnecessary confusion in the party and also get attention which he doesn’t deserve, so the public should not listen to him.”

Kofi Jumah was arrested by the police at the Asokwa Police Station for creating confusion and tearing electoral papers into pieces when voting was about to commence during the NPP primary.

His arrest delayed the voting for about five hours but the Electoral Commission (EC) officials eventually signalled for the delegates to cast their ballot in the absence of Kofi Jumah, who was cooling off in police cells.

At the end of voting, the EC declared Madam Patricia Appiagyei who amassed about two/thirds of the valid votes cast as the winner and the NPP parliamentary candidate for Asokwa in 2016.

But Kofi Jumah who is still facing court action for his behaviour during the NPP primary has called for the cancellation of the Asokwa primary, arguing that the polls were not held in a free and fair manner.

In a sharp rebuttal, Mr Kyei had stated categorically that the Asokwa NPP primary was held in a fair and peaceful atmosphere with the EC supervising it.

He said Kofi Jumah upon arrival at the venue on the day of election realised that he was definitely going to lose since he (Jumah) had no chance of defeating the incumbent Asokwa MP, Madam Patricia Appiagyei.

Kyei alleged that Kofi Jumah tried to disrupt the electioneering process by tearing some of the election papers but the EC still conducted the polls and declared Madam Patricia Appiagyei as the winner.

According to him, the verdict of the election was a clear indication that Madam Appiagyei’s excellent work as MP which had brought development to the constituency and unity in the NPP was cherished by the delegates.

He had advised Kofi Jumah to refrain from his destructive attitudes and accept his defeat in the polls in good faith, noting that “Jumah only wants attention but he will not get.”
