Aspiring chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sir Kofi Portuphy has stated that the race to see who occupies the head quarters of the party as commander in chief should not be a do or die affair.

He said the unity of the NDC is paramount and essential in ensuring victory for the party and the president in the next presidential and parliamentary elections.

‘’I have vowed to build a unified party; neither myself nor my campaign team will run an insult free, attack free campaign. I am not in the race to lose thus why should I allow my people to engage in spurious allegations and attack the personalities of others?’’

In an interview with Sir Kofi Portuphy popularly known as uncle Pee he made it known that the interest of the NDC is supreme to any personal interest thus the need for all of us to be mindful of the task ahead and not be taken by events due to what we say in the struggle to lead the party.

It is important as aspiring leaders to embark on exemplary campaign the youth and all others would find worth emulating.

The coordinator of the national disaster management organization noted that though he is upbeat of winning the chairmanship race he has vowed not to engage in vile propaganda or insults or unfounded allegations to achieve such feat.

‘’we have to be careful; as leaders not to wash our dirty cloths outside (I wonder if there’s any) to unnecessarily empower our opponents.’’

At the time of going to press only two people have expressed their intention to contest. They are; former ambassador to Malaysia Dan Abodakpi and the NADMO coordinator Sir Kofi Portuphy. The incumbent chairman Dr. Kwabena Adjei has not declared his intention yet but likely to do so in coming days.

The NDC has set later this year to go to congress and elect new leaders to steer the affairs of the party for victory in the 2016 elections.

According to uncle Pee, there is enough reason why the delegates of the NDC should elect a grassroots man, a unifier, and affable, caring, hardworking and decisive man like him.

‘’I have pledged to work with all those who matter in the NDC, both the high and the low, the new and the old, build bridges and build the structures of the party. I mean under my leadership everybody will be relevant and useful because I shall work with all to achieve the best for the NDC and Ghana our beloved country.’’

Mr. Kofi Portuphy urged Ghanaians to remain optimistic as president Mahama and government are trying hard to put the economy on a solid footing, saying, there is hope in President John Dramani Mahama.
