Accra (Greater Accra), 9 Dec.,
Kofi Sammy, 51, a musician and Faisal Helwani, 51, a music producer, today appeared before an Accra circuit tribunal charged with stealing 1,000 Swiss Francs and 350,000 cedis belonging to the musician union of Ghana (MUSIGA). Sammy and Helwani who were charged with two additional courts of causing unlawful demange and unlawful entry pleaded not rpt not guilty and they were each granted a two million-cedi bail to re-appear on December 22. Police Inspector James Kofi Adu told the tribunal that on September 11, this year, the secretary to the MUSICA, Ms.. Gifty Brown Adonteng, was in office when a group of musicians including Sammy went to the office and demanded that she should hand-over the office keys to him but she refused. At about 8.30 pm the same day, Sammy and Helwani went to the office and met the night watchman on duty and told him that the executive of MUSIGA had been dissolved. The prosecution said when the two accused persons found that the office doors had been locked, Sammy forced the door open, entered and collected some chair cushions which he used to spend the night with the watchman while Helwani left for his house. The following day when the secretary came to the office she detected that some office documents and the monies were missing.
