Kofi Wayo to quit NDC, if

THE MAVERICK politician and Founder of the United Renaissance Party (URP) has threatened to quit the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the lot of Ghanaians is not improved for the better. The URP in the round up to the 2008 presidential elections entered into political alliance with the NDC to better change the lives of Ghanaians but Mr. Wayo in an exclusive interview TRUTH indicated that after meticulous assessment the NDC is yet to fulfill the numerous electoral promises.

“They are aware, if the conditions of Ghanaian are not improved by December my party is going to access their performance and we will advice ourselves”, he emphasized. He debunked the assertion that URP has been hibernated and not represented on the political landscape. The party went to the “boardroom” to strategize to frame up policies and ideas; and energize the regional branches, he revealed. “We have been round in the villages forming farming groups. The URP believes in the youth therefore we are canvassing for support from the tertiary institutions”, he indicated.

Mr. Wayo asserted that the only political party that can deliver the country from economic obscurity to the limelight is the URP. “Why do we cry when we are surrounded by numerous natural resources”, he asked.

He has therefore called for a paradigm shift in co-colonial economic management and politics to revolutionary and practical economics. “We’ve got to move from the colonial development partners IMF/World bank mentality and URP is the only party that can change that”. Quizzed on the performance of the NDC, Mr. Wayo opined that the NDC is more human relative to the NPP but he conceded that the NDC is still grappling with youth unemployment, water and electricity crisis.

According to him the URP is constrained by its alliance with the NDC and “we can only offer constructive criticism to government”. The communication Director of URP, Joseph Bill Danquah reiterated the threat of the founder to back out of the alliance with the NDC saying “we have reminded the President on the promises during the campaigns, we are watching till December”.

He intimated that the party’s leadership will meet in December to deliberate on either to continue with the alliance or quit and that “We have communicated this to them (NDC)”.
