Kombian's case adjourned to October 28

The case involving Johnson Kombian, the businessman and farmer, who is being held over the death of two Policemen in the Northern Region has suffered setbacks.

Kombian, who had concluded his evidence before the court, is expected to call two witnesses.

However, there had been several excuses concerning the appearance of Kombian’s witnesses compelling the court to adjourn the matter.

At today’s sitting the matter was adjourned to October 28 and October 29 on the basis that the witness in question is indisposed.

On September 1, Kombian’s counsel, Mr George Asamaney, told the Fast Track High Court that he had talked to the witness and he had agreed to be there to testify.

The defence counsel said he even promised to pay the witness’ hotel bills should he travel to Ghana.

Unfortunately, the counsel said, he received a short notice from the witness stating that he (the witness) work with a ‘white man’ and who would not allow him to travel from Togo to Ghana.

The witness, however, had requested him to write officially to his employer for his release, he said.

He, therefore, prayed the court, presided over by Mr Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh, for an adjournment.

The court obliged the defence counsel’s request, saying it would add a witness summons to the letter written by counsel so the two could be served on the witness.

Prosecution in the case of Kombian has closed their case after calling six witnesses.

The court, therefore, called on Kombian to open his defence, which he did. However, he said he was going to call a witness to testify on his behalf.

Kombian, and his accomplices, who are on the run, are alleged to have ambushed three policemen, and killed two of them on October 10, 2010.

The victims were Constables Prince Agyare and Owusu Frimpong.

Kombian currently on remand has denied, before a seven-member jury, the charge of conspiracy, and two counts of killing the two police officers.
