Former first Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has said it is incumbent upon the Government to create job opportunities for the youth so as to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.
She said the current unemployment conundrum can be put down to a lack of an enabling environment and appropriate state policies to create jobs for young people.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of IPMC College of technology in Accra, the founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP) said appropriate government policies in entrepreneurship will enable young people to start their own businesses.
She said although “the high level of unemployment across African countries pushes us to create because we have to earn a living,” the Governments of those countries still have the responsibility to create job opportunities for their jobless citizens.
“…With all those things going on, it is still the responsibility of Government to create the opportunities and policies to reduce unemployment,” she explained.
“If there are no opportunities, how do you create anything,” she said.
