Accra, July 6, GNA - Nana Konadu Aygeman-Rawlings, Former First Lady and NDC Flagbearer Aspirant, on Wednesday, pledged her commitment to ensure restoring public trust in politics in Ghana.

She said the nation was weary and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was disappointed because the current leadership had failed to uphold its principles.

"I will build a stronger and a fairer society with the foundation of NDC, which rest on unity, stability and development, to revive the spirit and vitality of the NDC," she said.

Nana Konadu was addressing a press conference in Accra on her preparation towards the three-day NDC Congress in Sunyani, from July 8-10, to elect its Flagbearer for Election 2012.

She explained that her decision to contest the NDC Flagbearership was against the backdrop of growing division, apathy and despondency among party faithfuls.

Nana Konadu said the Party had been divided into factions, which never existed and was killing the spirit of the NDC.

"In the past, our Party has always been open to various opinions and consensus was reached without the creation of factions," she added.

Nana Konadu said the President Mills' administration had positioned Ghana in no better condition after taking power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

She said the performance of the current government had betrayed the hopes and aspiration of primary stakeholders and grassroots supporters of the NDC.

"The the truth is that, the current leadership of the NDC has lost touch with our grassroots supporters. We must re-energise and empower our grassroots to restore hope and trust," she stressed.

Nana Konadu observed that the NDC Party structures were suffering from total neglect from disempowerment at the grassroots.

She pointed out that power had been usurped from primary stakeholders and grassroots supporters, who worked tirelessly to ensure victory for NDC during Election 2008.

Nana Konadu assured NDC supporters of her determination and commitment to restore and revive the positive energy from the grassroots.

She said she was confidence in winning the NDC flagbearership, to enable the Party to win Election 2012.
