Konadu's Boy Sacked From RCC

Kumasi — The Ruckus surrounding the NDC's flagbearership contest appears to have reached a level of personal victimization, after one of the party's radio panelists loyal to Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings was sacked from his post at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

Ernest Brogya Gyamfi, aka 'Armani', was given the sack on Thursday by the Information Service Department (ISD) for reasons which could only be described as cold persecution. The vociferous NDC radio panelist was officially notified of his dismissal in a letter written to him by the ISD, relieving him of his post as a staff of the Public Relations Department of the Regional Coordinating Council.

The NDC radio panelist has been informed that he can no longer hold himself as an employer of the Regional administration and has subsequently been instructed to revert to the Regional office of the ISD for re-assignment.

Gyamfi, who has been a strong advocate of the Rawlingses, is suspecting victimization, alleging that he has lost his job because of his loyalty to the former first couple and the candidature of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.

Brogya Gyamfi was posted to the RCC in 2009 by the Ministry of Information through the ISD as a staff of the Public Relations outfit of the regional administration, where he had been coordinating media programmes and defending government policies on radio stations in Kumasi. Brogya Gyamfi, however, says he suspects foul play in his dismissal because no specific reasons were assigned in the letter addressed to him.

According to him, the letter only stated that the decision was purely an administrative one. What appeared to have fuelled speculations is that not long ago, the head of Public Relations at the RCC, Sebastian Odoom, was suspended, leaving the headship position vacant. One would have, therefore, expected that Brogya Gyamfi would be made to fill the vacancy until a substantive one was appointed.

Asked if he had had a personal confrontation with any official at the Coordinating Council to merit his dismissal, Brogya answered in the negative, stressing that he had been performing his duty in line with the rules and regulations governing the PR job.

The news may come as a major blow to the NDC panelist, considering the fact that he recently got married to his lovely wife. But it appears Brogya Gyamfi is not the only NDC official who is saddened by the recent developments concerning his dismissal.

The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Joseph Yamin has also expressed his disgust at the dismissal, describing it as a major blow to the NDC.

Yamin, who has also been tagged by the pro-Mills as Konadu loyalist, despite the fact that he has not made any official declaration, lamented that the persecution within the party could have dire consequences in the 2012 elections.

The NDC regional scribe has also received his fair share of cold treatment after he was excluded from a recent meeting held between President Mills and regional executives of the party.

Yamin said he was not invited to the meeting, neither was he notified of it, even though he was in Kumasi throughout the period the President was in the capital.
