Kongo Community cleans up Market area

Kongo (UER), April 11, GNA - The Kongo community in the Talensi-Nabdam district including Pupils and staff of Kongo Junior Secondary School on Thursday undertook a four-hour clean-up exercise of their market and its surroundings.

The clean- up exercise was to ensure the maintenance of sanitation in the area to curb sicknesses such as malaria and cholera, which is prevalent during the rainy season.

The Assemblyman, Mr. James Ayanori and the chief of the area, Sapaat-Naab David Dong, who jointly led the people in the clean up, stressed that they would ensure that the exercise was sustained to help maintain good healthcare.

They maintained that if every community could make environmental cleanliness a priority, diseases such as cholera and malaria could be avoided saying, very soon any body caught disposing waste indiscriminately would be prosecuted. The Talensi-Nabdam District Chief (DCE), Mr Sebastian Bisnab, said it was the responsibility of every Ghanaian to help maintain environmental cleanliness. The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr Bernard Benanzi, exhorted community members to send their children to school, so that they could become responsible citizens in future. The Headmaster of Kongo Junior Secondary School, Mr Joseph Clement Kanselley asked the Assemblyman of the area, to convince the District Assembly to connect electricity to the school in order to facilitate the President's Distance Learning Education Programme. 11 May 06
