The Dagomba Youth Association has chided the media for reporting of conflicts between them and Konkombas.

A total of five persons are in police custody in relation to the deadly clash between the two groups which happened on Tuesday April 11.

However, spokesperson for the Dagomba Youth Association, Abdulai Iddrisu, told Class FM’s Kwesi Parker Wilson on Friday, April 14 that the clash which resulted in two deaths, several injuries and over 30 persons being displaced, should not be linked to ethnic tensions.

He said he “thought the media would have done due diligence to go underground and find out what is going on instead of picking something from the roads where someone says Konkombas and Dagombas are fighting then you go out there and report”.

He maintained that “we are not at war with Konkombas and Konkombas are not at war with us”.

Mr Iddrisu added: “We are friends and we love them as well as they love us; we need them as well as they need us.”

He said occasional misunderstandings are inevitable and “dialoguing to understand one another is the way to go”, but the recent violence is far from an ethnic feud.

The IGP, while addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday April 12, explained: “One major solution to this (violence) is for us to ensure that the people are relocated.”

But Mr Iddrisu does not support relocation. According to him, dialogue with stakeholders is what will deal with the issue instead of resettlement.
