Accra, May 12, GNA- Konkombas in East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region, at the weekend expressed their commitment to peace, unity and co-existence.

"Konkombas are fully aware that no meaningful development can take place where there is no peace."

This was contained in a petition signed by chiefs and other community opinion leaders at Gbintiri and copied to a number of people, including the President and the Vice President.

The petition sought to explain the rationale behind the call by Konkombas to be part of the newly created Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District, which was carved out of the East Mamprusi District.

The petitioners said Konkombas at Gbintiri were closer to Bunkpurugu than Gambaga, the capital of East Mamprusi District, while their clan head is closer to Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District. The petition said Gbintiri was part of the Bunkpurugu/ Yunyoo sub-District since the Second Republic.

However, Konkombas at Gbandaa, Kolgona, Gardaa-Tinga, Togbin and other Konkomba villages are part of the East Mamprusi District. The petition said the petition by Konkombas to be part of the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District would facilitate the development of the area, which lack electricity, potable water and health care facilities. " The health post at Gbintiri is a white elephant. It is not well-equipped and the health care of the people is almost nil." The petition called for sheds for Gbintiri market, which much provides revenue to the East Mamprusi District.

"We think we have the right to ask for what can help us to develop," the petition said.
