Tema, July 17, GNA - A Korean Medical Team, has, within four days, successfully performed a total of 129 eye surgeries at the Eye Clinic of the Tema General Hospital.

Mrs Olivia Elorm, Principal Nursing Officer in charge of the Eye Clinic who made this known to the Ghana News Agency at the hospital on Friday said 101 of the patients underwent cataract operations, while pterygium (growth on the eye) accounted for the rest of the figure.

Mrs Elorm said as many as 897 patients with various forms of eye conditions were successfully attended to from Monday July 12 to Thursday July 15.

She expressed the Clinic's appreciation to Vision Care Service (VCS), a Korean relief organisation that carried out the eyes treatment.

Mrs Elorm described the visit of VCS as a big success, although the team could not attend to the overwhelming number of patients.

Dr Dong-Hae Kim, Chief Executive Officer of VCS led the 21-member team to Ghana to provide free eye screening, cataract surgeries and lenses to the general public.

Their visit was at the invitation of the Korean Society in Ghana and the Tema Chapter of the Lions Club International.
