Nurses at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have indicated their resolve to go on strike starting from Monday.

Joy News has learnt the nurses are protesting what they say is the unfair treatment being meted out to them by management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

They said their working hours far exceed the legally allowed eight hours, but they are not compensated for the extra hours done.

One of the nurses who spoke to Joy News confirmed the impending strike

The nurse, who wants to remain anonymous for now, said they staged a peaceful demonstration about two months ago to highlight their plights, but hospital authorities, he said, have failed to address the concerns raised.

“Our demonstrations and pleadings have fallen on deaf ears,” he said, stressing that Monday’s action “is going to be an indefinite strike until management meet our needs.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Registered Nurses Association has confirmed to Joy News it has received a petition from its members at Korle Bu.

President of the Association, Kweku Asante-Krobea, however, says he was yet to be informed about the strike.
