Asante Kotoko have expressed disappointments at the exclusion of their player, Yaw Frimpong from the Ghana squad to face Sudan and Nigeria.
The 24-year-old who was originally named in the 22-man squad for the double assignments was ditched at the last hour before the local component of the team emplaned for their training camp in Kenya on Sunday.
Reasons for the last minute decision have at this point not been officially communicated and the Kumasi-based club says it is not interested in finding out why their right-back was dropped.
“Yes, we are disappointed that he (Frimpong) did not make the trip with the team but we want to encourage him to keep his focus,” the club’s spokesman Listowell Bukarson exclusively told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“We have not been furnished with the reasons for the decision to drop him and the club would not be making any demands in that regard.
“We know Frimpong is a god player and at the opportune time he will get the chance to play for the national team.”
The exclusion now leaves only two local players in the squad namely; Daniel Agyei and Ernest Sowah (both goalkeepers).
The club has thus made a passionate appeal to the media to be circumspect in their reportage of the latest development so as not to destabilize their camp ahead of their league opener with Tema Youth on Sunday.
“We request that this news is not blown out of proportion by the media so we don’t lose track of the weekend’s important league match against Tema Youth, that is what we want to be focused on,” Bukarson added.
