Asante Kotoko legend, Abdul Razak, has called for the establishment of a reserve league in Ghana. The proposed league would feature curtain-raiser games between reserve teams before the main games.

Razak believes this initiative would significantly improve the development of football fundamentals in the country. He cited an example where a match between Hearts of Oak and Dreams FC would be preceded by a game between their respective reserve sides.

Razak expressed his concerns in an interview with Peace FM, monitored by Footballghana.com

He explained that this would ensure that players who do not feature in the regular team would have the opportunity to play in the reserve side, thereby maintaining their match fitness and sharpness.

"If you don't get regular playing time, it will be difficult for you when you are eventually called upon. But if you play in the reserves for 90 minutes, you have played some football that could open up a chance for you in the next week," Razak said.

He lamented the current situation where some first teams have over 30 players, which he believes is counterproductive to player development.
