Kpalime-Wegbe (Volta Region), 4 Nov. Miss Akua Dansua, Kpando District Chief Executive, has urged communities to revive their communal spirit and initiate self-help projects to qualify for assistance from the district assemblies. She said in spite of the district assemblies common fund there is still the need for self-help projects because the fund cannot meet all the development projects needs of every community. Miss Dansua was speaking at the first ''Kpalikpakpa'' annual festival of the chiefs and people of Kpalime traditional area in the Kpando district. The festival which is derived from an appellation in Ewe, "Kpalikpakpa si tu makpata" (shooting without recording), reminded the people of the valour of their ancestors during wars in the ancient days. Miss Dansua told the people that the district assembly has set aside 60 million cedis to boost agriculture in the area and urged them to take advantage of it. She said under the package, hard-working farmers and farming groups would be given loans to increase productivity. Miss Dansua urged the people to take the national immunization programme seriously and have their children below five years immunized against the six childhood-killer diseases. She warned against bush-fires and called on chiefs to impose sanctions on those who willfully start bushfires. Dr. Alexander Ababio, MP for south Dayi, urged those who have turned 18 years this year and those who for one reason or another could not register to do so now. He said the NDC government would not discriminate against any area in its development programmes. In a welcoming address read for him, Togbe Agbi Yao the seventh, paramount chief of Kpalime traditional area, commended the NDC government for the relative peace prevailing in the country which is conducive to investment. He urged the Kpando district assembly to reshape the road network linking Todome-Toh-Dzemeni to ease communication problems in the area. An appeal for funds to improve conditions at the Kpalime-Wegbe yielded 3.5 million cedis.
