Kpandu Municipal Assembly is to go into commercial farming of chili-pepper for export.

The venture, likely to begin this year, is to help create employment in the area Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Kpandu Municipal Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday.

He said some Germans were undertaking feasibility studies at Gbefi and have expressed the hope that the venture would be a success.

Mr Ganyaglo said the Municipality, largely agrarian, is working to attract investors to develop its agricultural prospects to expand the local economy and the Assembly, together with other stakeholders, was developing the Kpandu-Tokor Irrigation Project to support farming activities in the area and make the project viable.

“Currently, we have over 1,000 Youth In Agric personnel and several farmer based groups in the Municipal area so, we are working hard on the irrigation project to support their activities,” Mr Ganyaglo said.

He described the Municipal Assembly as “on course” with accelerated developments scattered everywhere is tarring many roads which used to be feeder roads, is working on potable water and would soon habilitate the Kpandu Central Market.

Mr Ganyaglo said the hard work of the Assembly won it District Development Fund (DDF) since 2006 which is helping fund some projects in the Municipality.

He said the Assembly would soon re-construct the Kpandu-Tokor Landing site with the provision of a 100-seat ferry and called for support from all.
