The Trede Development Committee, holding itself as the Trede Co-operative Housing Society, has filed a writ of summons at a Kumasi High Court against the Krontihene and regent of the town, Nana Owusu Badu, and four others.
The suit, filed by Isaac Baffour Agyemang, chairman of the society, and his executives, seek an order of the court for a perpetual injunction, restraining the Krontihene and his agents from claiming title to parcels of land belonging to the society.
The writ, filed on January 30, this year, is also seeking recovery of possession and damages for trespass. A supporting statement of claim stated that in 1997, the society acquired a 20-acre plot of land for construction of low-cost housing units at Trede.
The chief of Trede, Nana Nubeng Asare, is said to have allocated the land to the society on January 8, 1997.
According to the plaintiffs, some houses were put up on part of the acquired land, but the Krontihene, who now doubles as the regent of the town, unlawfully allocated part of the already acquired land to his four co-defendants for development.
The suit was brought against the defendants after efforts by the plaintiffs to abate the trespass acts.
