The Member of Parliament (MP) for Krowor Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mrs Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, has reiterated her desire to affect lives in her area as her commitment to supporting education to soar.

Mrs Quaye, who is also the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, said her desire and passion to make an impact on the lives of people is the reason she offered herself up for the constituency to become a legislator.

The MP, who is known as a grass-roots person, made this known to the DAILY HERITAGE when she presented some educational items to eight basic schools and O'Reilly Senior High School in the area.

“I thank God that I’m able to affect lives in the constituency all the time and my passion has always been to affect the lives of others as before now my life revolved around my family, but now I have to touch others and that is why I am who I am today by the grace of God, so whatever I have to do to touch the lives of others, I will do.”

She explained further that, “The SDA Basic School had an unfortunate incident, the school got burnt, and our hearts go out to them. We are giving you some books and this will not be the end. We have had discussions and all the discussions have come to fruition.”

Mrs Quaye said with the newly-created Krowor Municipal Assembly (KROMA) having its Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the person of Mr Joshua Bortey, it would facilitate development projects in the municipality.

“We are now going to see the facilitation of work, especially now, in Krowor because now we have the MCE in place, and when I am in the ministry, I know that so many things would be happening and he is a very hard-working person and that was what the president saw in him and nominated him.

Concern

The Minister raised concern about the location of a senior high school in the area which is sharing a compound with the basic school, saying, “There was a building which had been put up supposedly to be a senior high school, but looking at this, I don’t think there is enough space for a senior high school to be built there. I think it was a case of a square peck put in a round hole so we have to convert it.”

She continued: “You are already there so you have to benefit from it. The senior high school needs a bigger space and when a senior high school is brought there, I don’t think the students themselves would be comfortable and the school cannot expand and fit into that environment.

Gratitude

Mrs Gloria Naa Ahene Clerg, the Director of the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Directorate of Education, expressed gratitude to the MP and acknowledged her efforts in promoting education in the area.

She assured the gathering that the items would enhance quality education and they would ensure that the items propel the municipality and the students to perform better in both the Basic Education Certificate Examination and the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination.

“We are grateful to the MP and minister and we promise that the result that will come out from using these items would be the best in Ghana.”

Items presented

The Minister presented 1,000 exercise books to the SDA Basic School, and 200 dual desks to eight basic schools in the area with an assurance to bring later.

Three desktop computers and a printer were given to O'Reilly SHS and three laptops to three of its students who excelled in last year’s WASSCE. Two desktops and a laptop were given to the directorate to support its activities, while eight desktop computers were also given to the ICT centre of Nungua Methodist ‘2’ Junior High School in the municipality.

The occasion was also graced by the MCE of KROMA, Mr Joshua Bortey, directors of the assembly, party executives and representatives of the various schools in the area.
