Krowor Want Cabinet Minister in 2012

Nicholas Borlabi, deputy organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party in the Krowor constituency, has bemoaned the slow pace of development in the constituency, attributing it to the low influence of the Members of Parliament elected over the years.

According to Mr Borlabi, the MPs had not been effective in lobbying for development projects to be undertaken in the constituency “because they don’t command the influence required to do so.”

Speaking to The Publisher on the sidelines of a Zonal get-together of the party, he stressed the need for the NPP to look out for a parliamentary candidate for the 2012 election who stands the chance of being appointed as a cabinet Minister in the next NPP government.

According to the NPP executive, the recent cry of the people of Krowor is to get an MP in the next Parliament who would attract the eye of the President to get appointment as a cabinet Minister.

“No MP from Krowor has ever been appointed a cabinet Minister because they don’t have the clout and the influence. We don’t want that to continue because it has been affecting our development negatively. We stand the best chance of getting a cabinet Minister in the next NPP government under Nana Akufo-Addo’s presidency if we do the right thing by electing an MP who has the clout and the influence,” he underscored.

Dr Nyaho Tamakloe, a leading member of the party, urged the people Krowor to consider the capabilities of the people who seek their mandate to represent them in parliament.

“You need to get an MP who can speak for you in Parliament and influence development in your constituency. If the person seeking your mandate has been to Parliament before, then you need to consider what he did for you when he was there,” he added.

Dr Tamakloe stressed the urgent need for effective polling station organization, adding “we need to work seriously at the polling stations and also encourage small group discussions to explain issues to the electorate instead of the big rallies.”

The constituency Secretary, Romeo Safo, called for unity among all members of the party in the constituency as they strategize to annex the seat in the 2012 elections. He expressed optimism about the party’s prospects of winning the seat in 2012, stressing that the people had regretted voting for both the NDC MP for the constituency and President Mills.

Nii Bubui Kakai, a Patron of the party and former constituency chairman, was optimistic about the prospects of the NPP returning to the corridors of power in 2012. He, however, noted that whether that would be possible or not will largely depends on how the party manages to keep its unity intact from now till 2012.

Nii Kakai, therefore, urged the aspiring parliamentary candidates and their supporters to refrain from all utterances and activities that could have the potential of undermining the party’s unity.
