Kufuor Acted On Energy Commission Audit Report

Thu, 19 May 2005 Source: Crusading Guide

The Crusading Guide can authoritatively say that President Kufuor acted on an Interim Audit Report in asking Nana Osei Bonsu (Ashanti Mamponghene) and Mr Kofi Asante, Board chairman and Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission respectively, to step aside for fuller investigations to be conducted into alleged improprieties at the Commission.

A section of the public and the media have speculated that the President acted on mere media reports. Information available to The Crusading Guide however indicates that on March 17, 2005, the National Security Co-ordinator, acting on allegations made by an informant, sent a Memorandum to the President, which was copied to the Auditor-General, outlining the allegations made against Mr Kofi Asante Darko, the step-aside Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission.

According to presidential sources, upon receipt of the Memorandum, the President directed the auditor-general to conduct preliminary investigations and report back to him. Subsequently, the Auditor-General, after preliminary investigations, submitted a ?draft report' dated April 29, 2005, and containing interim findings on the allegations made by the informant.

Meanwhile, as we went to bed, sources at the Audit Service indicated to us that more allegations have since been made and relayed to the office of the Auditor-General by some staff members of the Energy Commission. The new set of allegations is being investigated.
