Over Akufo-Addo, Rawlings Meeting
Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor is a very angry man.
And close associates have told The Informer that Kufuor’s anger stems from a number of reasons.
One is that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Mr. Williams Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo visited former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The second is that Akufo Addo is reported to have apologized to Rawlings that the decision to withdraw his diplomatic courtesies and privileges was an act that Kufuor did against his (Nana’s) advice.
The NPP flagbearer, per intelligence information picked up, is said to have also told Rawlings that even at one stage Kufuor had wanted to have him (Rawlings) arrested.
However, ex-President Kufuor’s close associates further explained that the decision to withdraw Rawlings’ diplomatic courtesies and privileges, for which Akufo Addo had gone to apologized, alleging that it was an act masterminded by former President Kufuor, was initiated by Nana Addo.
Former President John Kufuor, according to this paper’s intelligence sources, is surprised that Nana Addo who saw Rawlings as a very dangerous person who needed to be humbled and his wings clipped, is today trying to claim innocence for a decision they collectively took.
These comments, the Kufuor confidant said were comments made by Akufo-Addo in an earlier meeting between him (Nana Addo) and former President Rawlings.
The NPP flagbearer last Thursday met with the Founder of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Jerry John Rawlings, at his Ridge office. The two were reported to have made certain solemn promises to each other, including the former, assuring the latter of his full support in his campaign.
