Former President Kufuor and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the man who contested but lost the flag-bearership position of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to Nana Akufo-Addo, have promised to do whatever it takes to ensure victory for the party and its candidate.

They have stated their readiness to not only join but also intensify their efforts to get Nana Addo elected in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections slated for December 2012, dispelling claims by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the NPP was bent on taking power through fair or foul means.

This was at a fundraising dinner organised by the Eastern regional branch of the party at a location in Akropong on the Akuapim mountain.

Present were key and influential members of the party in the region including former and incumbent Members of Parliament (MP) from the region like MP for New Juaben North, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, former MP for Akim-Oda, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, MP for Akropong, William Ofori Boafo and Eastern regional Chairman of the party, Dr Samuel Annor and a host of others.

Kufuor decried the high cost of living under incumbent President John Evans Atta Mills, a man who promised to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians and reduce poverty to the barest minimum when in opposition.

He was particularly worried about the inconsistency of the Mills administration in view of the fact that they had not been able to deliver on the numerous promises they made to Ghanaians ahead of the 2008 general elections which brought them to power.

This, according to him, had reduced the level of confidence that Ghanaians and the international community had in the ruling NDC administration and Ghana as a country, and thus stressed the need for Ghanaians to make amends come December 2012 when they went to the polls to elect a President.

He therefore charged the country’s youth, who formed a majority of the voting population, to rise up to the occasion in order to secure the needed victory.

On his part, Alan Kyerematen pledged an unflinching support for Nana Addo, indicating his readiness to join the campaign to get him elected as president in the upcoming elections, whilst Nana Addo used the occasion to call for all hands on deck to ensure a one-touch victory.

Having toured the length and breadth of the country on his ‘listening tour’, Nana Addo said he was optimistic of a victory come December 2013 when the results of the elections are declared.

That notwithstanding, the presidential candidate of the NPP charged the rank and file of the party to bury their individual and collective differences to help win the election since according to him, it would be extremely difficult for the NPP to win back power.

Nana Addo thanked the individuals and businessmen who donated to the cause, whilst asking others to donate towards the party’s campaign.
