A number of religious leaders are making efforts to broker peace between President Kufuor and ex-President Rawlings. The leaders including Bishop Duncan Williams, Rev Dr Mensah Otabil, Bishop Agyin Asare and Rev Sam Korankye Ankrah have already had a meeting with former President Rawlings.
At the meeting, they told the former President that as religious leaders, they were interested in promoting peace and that the apparent antagonistic relations between Rawlings and Kufuor was poisoning the national atmosphere.
They said part of their mandate was to find out what the grievances of the former President are, so that they can communicate them to the Kufuor administration.
They promised to seek audience with President Kufuor, and then come back to the former President for an amicable settlement of the differences between them. The meeting was held behind closed doors, but sources say the leaders are playing with the idea of hosting a reconciliation meeting between the former President and the current one.
