Kufuor calls on GE to sustain its partnership support

Accra, Sept. 5, GNA -- President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on General Electric, an American Company, to sustain its partnership support for the country's health institutions.

The Company has over the past two years provided Ghana with about 10 million dollars health support by way of the installation of medical equipment and logistics.

The beneficiaries included the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital; Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital; Ghana Health Service and seven other District Hospitals.

President Kufuor made the call when the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Mr Joe Hogan led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu, on Tuesday.

The delegation is in the country to explore ways to further develop the partnership between the Company and the country. President Kufuor said Ghana was the gateway to the West Africa and for that matter whatever assistance was given to it, in the end affected the quality of lives of not only Ghanaians but also peoples from other countries within the Sub-Region.

Mr Hogan said for the two days, the delegation had been in Ghana and the visits it had made to some medical facilities they were impressed with what they had seen.

Major Courage Quashiga (rtd), the Health Minister and Professor Agyeman Badu-Akosah, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, were present.
