Kufuor commends Jospong for helping to keep Ghana clean

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has lauded Jospong Group of Companies for making consistent effective contributions to the development of the country.

Mr. Kufuor who joined staff and workers of Jospong Group of Companies to mark this year’s praise and thanksgiving service, Friday, intimated that the firm has contributed immensely to the country’s waste management industry.

Recounting how Jospong’s decision to go into waste management fell in line with the vision of his government, Kufuor averred that there is the need for government to support the private sector to thrive, saying no government could develop a country without such collaborative efforts.

“I do not know anywhere on earth where poverty has been used to cure poverty. You need to create the wealth to be able to help the not-so-privileged. You need to be able to have the wealth to fix the safety net. For equality of opportunity, give education to people, do as Jospong is doing – cleaning all the firth that sometimes piles to the levels of skyscrapers.

“You walk to our beaches, what do you see? Open defecation, dirt, plastic bottles all over the place. So when you have a conglomerate like Jospong trying to help society by removing all the dirt so we have heath, so people can live, that’s what our government sets out to do. We were so pleased to see this group tackling the problems that used to be tackled by district assemblies with their constituency offices which they weren’t doing efficiently.

“When Jospong came with this whole initiative, engaging so many young people to clean our neighborhood, we were startled and said this is what should be happening. It was an integral part of the vision and policy of my government. That the government should partner the private sector to do all the jobs society needs to be done for it,” he said.

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong, the Executive Director of the Jospong Group of Companies in his remarks, also commended Kufuor for the words of encouragement given him in past times.

“Apart from showing gratitude to God, I personally thank former President Kufuor who did not know me from anywhere but called me and encouraged me during the early years of Zoomlion. It was his words that motivated me to do things I never thought I could do,” he said.

Dr Agyepong further lauded the staff and workers of Jospong Group of Companies for their dedication and commitment towards the company.
