Accra, June 14, GNA - The President John Agyekum Kufuor left Accra this afternoon to attend the mid-year Ordinary Summit of ECOWAS Heads of State, which opens on Friday in Abuja, Nigeria.
The heads of states are expected to consider a new strategic vision, which seeks to create a borderless zone for citizens of the sub-region to harvest resources for development.
A statement signed by Mr. Andrew Awuni, Presidential Spokesperson, said the summit would also review reports from the meetings of ECOWAS Council and the mediation and Security Council.
It said the leaders would also deliberate on the 2007 interim reports of Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, President of the ECOWAS Commission who is billed for official swearing in.
Ahead the Summit, ECOWAS Foreign Ministers are meeting on a regional approach to discuss the management of migration, particularly from the region to Europe.
President Kufuor is expected back tomorrow. At the airport to see him off were some Ministers of State, the Inspector General of Police, Chief of Defence Staff and other Senior Military and Police Personnel.
