... RECONSTRUCTION OF ACCRA-TEMA RAILWAY LINE ON COURSE, BUT
.... KUFUOR?S HOUSE, HOTEL ?WAA WAA? WON?T GO

Contray to speculations and agitations that President John Agyekum Kufuor?s house at the airport west residential area and what has now become known as hotel ?waa waa? are to be demolished to pave way for the reconstruction of the Accra-Tema railway line, the minister of harbours and railways, professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, has finally broken his silence on the matter.

He said the President?s house and ?hotel waa waa? do not fall within the 50 feet perimetre required by engineers to undertake the project and would not be affected by the demolition exercise soon to be embarked upon by the Ghana Railway Company (GRC) under the supervision of the ministry of Harbous and railway.

Leading a team of journalists, staff and officials of the ministry and GRC to inspect some equipment imported for the reconstruction exercise, Professor Ameyaw Akumfi, flanked by the chief director of the ministry, Alhaji M. N. D. Jawula, who doubles as the Chairman of the Railway Lands Committee, disclosed that both property are 87 feet away from the rail line and therefore falls outside the range.

According to the minister and the Railway Lands Committee chairman, engineers who are working on the project have indicated that they only need the 50 feet space on either side of the rail line to be able to work satisfactorily.
