A member of the ruling National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Communications team, Lawyer Kakra Asamoah, has lampooned ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor for poking his nose into the affairs of Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata.
He chided him for condoning the misconduct of some leading members of the opposition New Patriotic Party but venting his spleen on Lawyer Tsikata, Counsel for the ruling party in the just-ended Supreme Court case.
Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata, in a playback interview aired on TV3, accused Justice Anin-Yeboah, one of the nine Supreme Court Judges that heard the election petition, of allowing his political affiliations to determine his sense of judgement.
He said Justice Anin-Yeboah persistently took an opposing position against the NDC during the trial in the Supreme Court.
But his comments elicited an avalanche of criticisms from members of the opposition NPP and a section of the public who felt it was distasteful and, therefore, called on him to render an apology to the Supreme Court Justices.
Former President Kufuor condemned him in a statement issued by his Spokesperson, Frank Agyekum, on Monday, September 2, 2013, labeling the comments as “unwarranted” attacks and also cautioned the entire nation to refrain from making remarks that tend to threaten the peace and stability of the country.
But speaking in an interview with Radio Gold on Tuesday, Lawyer Kakra Asamoah asked Tsatsu’s critics to desist from hurling invectives on his personality, adding that he (Tsatsu Tsikata) must be allowed to exercise his freedom of speech.
“It is true Tsatsu Tsikata may have said something that you don’t agree with, but if he has said something you don’t agree with, deal with reasons he gave. Do not say that he has no right to speak,” he opined.
He queried former President Kufuor for slamming Lawyer Tsatsu when his party leaders have equally made disparaging remarks about the Supreme Court Judges.
He sought to find out the action he took against the Central Regional Chairman of the NPP who openly said that he now understood why Rawlings killed people.
“Why are they (NPP) not talking about that one?” and while he (President Kufuor) was “chastising Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, did he chastise Gabby Okyere Darko? Did he chastise the Central Regional Chairman of the NPP?” he asked.
He believed “some people have a complex” over Tsatsu and vowed to defend the cause of the NDC lawyer.
“Let people speak up. It is important for them to speak out than for them to have knives in their pockets,” Kakra Essamuah said.
