A member of the communications team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abu Afandi, has asked Ghanaians to blame themselves for failing to heed to former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s advice against voting for a violent person to manage the country.
Referring to the infamous statement made by the former president and interpreted to mean that, he was campaigning against the candidature of President Akufo-Addo, Abu Afandi said, a vote for Akufo-Addo has worsened the security situation in the country because the man in charge of affairs has an appetite for violence.
Speaking to Rainbow Radio’s Kwabena Agyapong Agyapong on Frontline Monday, Abu Afandi said we have to blame ourselves because we failed to heed to Mr. Kufour's advice.
In 2007, it was alleged that Mr. Kufuor was against Nana Addo, after a tape recording purported to be that of the former president leaked.
The tape recording which generated speculations in that year, made claims that, Mr. Kufuor gave his criteria for the NPP flagbearership race, and reportedly said the NPP needs a presidential candidate, who can unite the party, is God-fearing, Ghanaians will accept, and will be able to hold the country together.
Although the president has denied on several occasions his disapproval of President Akufo-Addo as a candidate in the past, Abu Afandi insisted that, Ghanaians were warned against the decision to vote for the current president.
He alleged that members of the ruling NPP are unleashing mayhem on supporters of the opposition NDC for lobbying for contracts from government.
According to him, the NPP members have threatened to beat such persons should they see them at any of the ministries in the name of winning contracts from the ruling government.
He insisted, Kufuor warned Ghanaians that Ghana would not be the same should the current president take over the affairs of state.
‘’Kufuor knew who he was talking about. He knew the people he lived with and knows what they are about,’’ he noted.
