The medical drone delivery centre which is being built in Kukua in the North East Region will be the biggest medical drone delivery centre in Ghana and will serve all five northern regions of the country, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said.

Located in the West Mamprusi District of the North East Region, the Vice President revealed that the size of the facility, the third of such facility so far in the country, is intended to serve not only the environs of its location, but also meant to serve the entire northern part of the country to significantly advance medical delivery and service to the people.

Speaking at a ground-breaking event for the construction of an ultra modern hospital in Walewale on Monday, the Vice President added that the medical drone delivery centre, which is nearing completion, will compliment the work of the new hospital, as well as other hospitals in the north to deliver more effective medical service to the people.

"The medical drone delivery centre currently built here in Kukua will be the largest in Ghana. And from this facility, the drones will be serving 500 hospitals and health clinics; 500 in the five northern regions," Dr. Bawumia said.

"So if a mother is giving birth in Tantaala and there is no blood, we send a text message, and the drone will lift the blood from Kukua and drop it in Tantaala. Or if a snake bites someone in Urio and there is no snake serum, they will call the center to pick the snake serum and drop it in Urio and they will give it to the patient."

The Vice President noted that the Government's vision of investing in medical drone delivery, is to improve on the delivery of health service in the country, especially in emergency situations, adding that very soon, the positive impact of the centres will be felt, especially in the north.

"You will not need long drives across many places to get them. If it is Salaga, it will get there. So it is a service to all the northern sector , all the five northern regions and by the time we end 2020, we will see the true impact of the drones. We will see how it will save a lot of lives of our people."

The Vice President reiterated President Akufo-Addo's commitment to provide life-changing development projects to the people in every region.

Dr. Bawumia listed a number of such life-changing development project in the North East Region and other parts of the North by the government, like the watermelon processing factory in Walewale, the 1 billion dollar Pawlugu dam, electrification projects in rural areas and several road networks that are under construction.

"Ladies and gentlemen, without fear of contradiction, the developments that are coming to the North East Region by the Government of Nana Akufo-Addo have no comparative in any government in the history of Ghana since independence."

Dr. Bawumia urged the people to continue to offer their support to President Akufo-Addo to continue with his development agenda.
