Kumasi Central Prison records first coronavirus case

The first novel coronavirus case has been reported at the Kumasi Central Prison in the Ashanti Region.

An inmate who was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) after he fell sick two weeks ago tested positive for the virus.

While on admission at the hospital, he was said to have started showing signs of the virus, causing health officials to test him for COVID-19.

Further details on the condition of the inmate and how the person contracted the virus have not been given yet.

A highly-placed source within the Prison who confirmed the case to 3news.com said the officers who escorted the inmate to the hospital have however tested negative.

Already there are fears a lot more inmates within the facility may have contracted the virus considering the congestion at the Prison.

Officials of the facility are yet to speak on the matter, stating they want to seek clearance from higher authority before making any official statement.
