The First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Mr Kwabena Nsenkyire is accusing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being responsible for setting fire on two different markets in Kumasi within the Easter period aimed at sabotaging Otumfuo Osei Tutu II 20th Anniversary celebration.

The Asantehene as part of his 20 years on the throne of the Asante Kingdom celebrated Akwasedae Kese at the Menhyia Palace which was attended by people from all walks of life including all former Presidents of the Republic of Ghana, current President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo and top politicians in the country.

It also saw dignitaries from all over the world like former president of the Republic of Nigeria President Olusegun Mathew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo among others in attendance.

However, correlating the Asantehene’s anniversary with the fire, the First Vice Chairman of the NPP in Ashanti Region alleged “If I should comment on the event based on my political point of view, then there is no doubt that the three fires were set to sabotage the Asantehene’s 20th Anniversary”.

Kwabena Nsankyire said during a studio discussion on Angel FM in Kumasi monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region in a statement blamed the government for the blaze at the two giant markets.

But Kwabena Nsenkyire is also serves as Boss of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the region, accused his political opponents of being the main architects of the fire

“They are the main architect of this” He alleged

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have said the three fires are possible work of arsonists while police in the region have so far arrested 33 suspects believed to have links to the fires.
