A Kumasi-based private legal practitioner, Ohene Amankwa-Gyan has sued the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology (KNUST) over negligence at its Accra Guest House which led to the loss of his personal belongings and cash all estimated at GHc14,650.

In a writ of summon filed at the High Court by his lawyer, Dominic Brenya Otchere from Sam Okudzeto and Associates Chambers and sighted by MyNewsGH.com, the plaintiff indicates that on the 10th of December 2017 around 5pm, he checked into the Defendant’s guest house as a guest.

The plaintiff adds that the receptionist assisted him with his personal items to Room 302 of the facility and that shortly after settling into his allocated room, he locked up and went to the restaurant to order food.

While waiting for the food, he decided to visit a nearby pharmacy to buy some drugs and therefore had to leave his key card with the receptionist but on his return to the room, the key card could not unlock his door, so he drew management’s attention to it and the door was forced open by management whiles waiting for his food at the restaurant.

The Plaintiff disclosed that he was later called to his room since it had been ransacked by unknown persons.

According to him, when he got into the room he realized that his bag which was locked with numerical digits containing a cheque book, some documents, and cash was forced open and items contained in it gone missing.

He mentioned a MacBook Pro, a cash of GH¢5,000, an Ipad Air laptop, some perfumes among other items stolen by the supposed miscreants all totaling the stated amount and it was later established that a guest who had just checked into room 301 was the one who entered the room to steal the items after which unceremoniously checked out without sleeping

Lawyer Ohene Gyan avers that the defendant was negligent and as a result of he has suffered a loss insisting the defendant owed the duty provide and secure the premises to the lodge.

He is, therefore, demanding a refund of the stated items or provide cash to cover them as well pay for the cost incurred in retrieving the stated items.
