More than 3000 orphans and widows from Zongo Communities in the Ashanti Region have received donations from a Kumasi-based philanthropist to celebrate this year’s Edil Fitr festivity.

The beneficiaries were given clothing, rice, cooking oil, chicken, drinks, cash and other items worth Ghc 10,000.

The annual event targets widows and orphans as well as individuals from less privileged families who have difficulty in affording for themselves food and other needs during the festivities.

The philanthropist, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kumasi-based Alpha Radio, Sheik Mohammed Ridwan said orphans are vulnerable in the society and need to be supported particlarly during the Islamic festive season.

He indicated that persons from poor backgrounds especially orphans could easily be influenced into indecent acts and other crime related activities due to their vulnerability.

Sheikh Ridwan emphasised that, when such help is extended to these persons it will make them feel part of the society.

Sheik Ridwan has therefore pledged to invest more resources in catering for such vulnerable persons especially within the Zongo communities.

Some beneficiaries who spoke to JoyNews thanked him for the kind gesture and prayed that, many of his kind would contribute to change the world.

Sheikh Ridwan has promised to make a bigger donation next year to cover more vulnerable persons in the region.
