Traders at Sokoban Wood Village in the Ashanti Region have called on government to establish a Fire Service Station at the industrial area following Thursday’s fire outbreak to curb future recurrence.

Properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis were razed down under bizarre circumstances following the fire outbreak which is reported to have caused by electrical fault.

“Over two thousand pieces of wood belonging to members have been completely reduced to ashes”, Vice President of Sokoban Wood Traders Association, Nana Kwabena Ano confirmed to mynewsgh.com when a reporter visited the scene Friday morning.

“Earlier, we detected a similar fire outbreak and managed to put it off before going home. …Late midnight we received calls from watchmen on duty that there is another smoke coming from eight stalls which was followed by a blast and then fire”, he narrated to the reporter, Kwabena Danso-Dapaah.

“Before the firefighters got here everything was completely destroyed because personnel were travelling from a long distance”, Nana Kwabena Ano stated

The leadership of the Association, therefore, appealed to authorities to establish fire station close to the industrial site to enable them respond quickly to future emergencies.

Meanwhile, the government has announced plans to establish Fire Station at the central business district of Kumasi to curb outbreaks at the Kumasi Central market and offices within the area.
