Kumawu Traditional Priest initiates water project

Kumawu (Ash), Nov 29, GNA-Barima Asumadu Sakyi II, Paramount Chief of the Kumawu Traditional Area, has praised Nana Kwabena Abebrese, Traditional Priest of the 'Black and White' powers shrine at Medoma near Kumasi, for his unrelenting efforts to end the perennial water problem at Kumawu in the Sekyere East District.

He said although Nana Abebrese also known as Nana Abass, has not completed the project he started two years ago, the work done so far was satisfactory.

Barima Asumadu Sakyi made this known when he visited the project site to acquaint himself with the progress of work.

"He has not finished but what he has done so far is helping to solve the water problem in the community. At least when people come they are able to fetch water from the basin."

The Paramount Chief said the water problem in the area started in 1995, when a water treatment plant installed at River Onwam, broke down due to lack of maintenance.

Barima Asumadu Sakyi said efforts by some organizations to provided dug boreholes for the town had proved futile. He said Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, had pledged to provide part of the grant he negotiated from the World Bank, to solve the water problem.

Nana Abass said seven billion cedis was required to construct two additional basins and other works.
