Former Black Stars head coach, Charles Kwabena (CK) Akonnor, has revealed that he did not receive the needed support from the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku.

He expressed disappointment that the lack of support from some key GFA officials had a negative impact on his job, but he still tried his best to make things work.

Akonnor mentioned that his relationship with Kurt Okraku was not as good as many people believed, contrary to public perception.

“A lot of people think Kurt was my friend, but it is the opposite. I did not have the necessary support I needed from him,” he stated during an interview with Accra-based JoyNews.

He shared this information while discussing the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

CK Akonnor was appointed as head coach of the Black Stars in January 2020, and during his tenure, the team played ten matches.

His record included four wins, four losses, and two draws, resulting in a 40% win rate, 40% loss rate, and 20% draw rate. However, he was later dismissed due to poor results.

This marks the first time in 21 years that the team has not qualified for the tournament, increasing the pressure on current head coach Otto Addo's position as calls for his removal grow.
