Plan Ghana and the Korea International Cooperation Agency have handed over a refurbished six unit classroom block at the Kwabea Asasahene District Assembly Primary School, to the Upper Manya Krobo District.

The construction of the classroom was under the “Quality Education” project, initiated by the two organisations in the district.

The project seeks to increase enrolment and improve upon the quality of education at Kwabea Asasehene; Plan Ghana said in a statement to Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday.

It said the building estimated to cost about GH¢259,163.71 include an office for teachers, a store, a library, and a five-seater girl-friendly KVIP latrine with hand washing facility.

The statement said the project would give scholarships to 32 Senior High School students, give financial support to 543 families under the Village Savings and Loans Associations, and train the people in business management to improve their livelihoods to enable them to invest in their children’s education.

It said the scheme would also ensure the training of members of three school management committees and child rights non-governmental organizations, to create awareness on child labour.

The statement said Mr. Prem Shukla, Country Director of Plan Ghana, explained that a partnership between Plan Ghana and the district started in 1994, aimed at developing the area in health, education, water, sanitation, micro-finance, agriculture and advocacy, to help children to realise their potentials.

It said Mr. Philp Agmor, who represented the District Director of Education commended Plan Ghana for building schools in the community.

He appealed to the Ghana Education Service to post more teachers to the Kwabea Asasahene District Assembly Primary School to promote teaching and learning.**
