National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Adjei, has thrown caution to the wind, raining cures on his perceived detractors.

“God would visit his anger on those people…I don’t particularly like rumours and if I say what I want to say, I’m bold to say it to the people even when they are present. I have never said that and the publication is very wicked, mischievous and it is an attempt to cover up the rumors that originated from the NPP,” he said.

This followed the publication of the contents of an audio recording in sections of the media in which a voice similar to his was overheard accusing some top echelons of the NDC of being behind the wild speculations about President Atta Mills’ supposed death.

On the said audio recording, Dr Adjei was heard saying, “There is nothing wrong with President Mills. President Mills is not ill. President Mills is doing what he can do to promote the ‘Better Ghana’ agenda, that’s it! And people want to rock the boat because they have their own agendas.”

“The likes of me have sat down; we have not talked about anything, we have watched events and we are worried because this is coming from within our own ranks and from the highest echelons of our ranks…there is nothing wrong with Professor Mills sitting down there; he’s healthy…We can’t continue to sit down and then see them rock the boat,” he was reported to have complained on the audio recording.

Angry with the media reportage, Dr. Adjei did not rule out the possibility of taking legal action against any media house that linked him to the ailment or death rumour concerning President Mills. Dr Kwabena Adjei had since been battling tooth and nail to dispute the story following calls by leading party members, including suspended Deputy General Secretary Kofi Adams, for the party’s leadership to suspend him (the Chairman) if they truly believed in the principle of equity and fairness.

“I may need to take steps to find out the person who said I granted him the interview, where it was granted, the time and what motivated me to grant him the interview,” the NDC chairman charged.

Kofi Adams who spoke on Adom FM said, “Sometimes the lack of courage and truthfulness in our politics is what is driving us back. Just like in my case, the man has denied saying what is on the tape. If officials fail to take any action I will leave it to Ghanaians to judge.”

In an interview on Accra-based Radio Gold, the NDC Chairman otherwise known as ‘Wayoo Wayo’ denied ever granting an interview to any radio station or speaking privately about the President’s health to anybody in the media for the past six to 10 months, raising doubts about the source and authenticity of the contents of the said tape in circulation.

Interestingly, in a similar interview on Adom FM on Thursday in which the recording was played to him, Dr Adjei fell short of either confirming or denying the voice being his, noting that the only conversation he recalled ever having about the President’s health was with President Mills, during which he personally told the President it was his ‘third resurrection’.

“God would visit his anger on those people…,” he told Radio Gold.

Dr. Kwabena Adjei had allegedly accused high-ranking members of his party of being behind the wild speculations that suggested President Mills was dead.

Dr Kwabena Adjei also bemoaned the practice whereby some individuals, because of their self-centeredness and desperation for power, used their offices to destroy “the very country that they live in”.

“Haven’t people gone to the church or mosque before? Haven’t they actually experienced moral training from their homes? Haven’t they gone to school where principles of morality and political morality are taught to them? What is happening in this country?” he quizzed.
